Description
Minoxidil is an FDA-approved, topical or oral medication clinically proven to treat hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) by stimulating dormant hair follicles and prolonging the hair’s growth phase. Available as a liquid or foam, it requires consistent, twice-daily application to maintain hair density.
Mechanism: Expands the hair follicle’s growth phase (anagen) and increases blood flow to revitalize shrinking follicles.
Formulations: Commonly available in 2% or 5% strengths. It comes in liquid solutions (often containing propylene glycol) and foams, which are typically better for sensitive skin.
Usage Cycle: Noticeable results usually take 3 to 6 months. Any hair regrowth is temporary; discontinuing use will result in the loss of new hair within months.
